Student Scholarships: Hope's Greatest Need

Scholarships are Hope's greatest need on campus, and gifts toward The Hope Fund translate directly into scholarship dollars — making a Hope College education accessible and affordable for more students. Give to the Hope Fund to directly support our current students and the incoming Class of 2025. Give to Hope Forward, a Pay It Forward tuition model, and support future Hope students.

95% of Hope students receive financial aid. Before they are challenged to think with clarity and wisdom, before they are trained to bridge boundaries and before they are inspired to become agents of Hope, they are first scholarship recipients. The COVID-19 pandemic has stretched the resources of many of our students, their families as well as Hope’s. The need for financial aid and scholarship support is at its highest level in years.

Scholarships bring Hope’s mission to life for countless accomplished students, making a Hope education accessible for many who might otherwise deem it impossible.

Why Scholarships?

Scholarships not only make attending Hope possible for many deserving students, but they also help limit encumbering students with excessive loan debt (now up to almost $1.3 trillion nationally). The percentage of Hope graduates with debt and the average student loan debt per graduate are below the national average. In addition, repayment rates are well above the national average. Our goal is to keep improving as we aim to be the best value among leading liberal arts colleges.

We will do this, with your help, by providing an unsurpassed educational experience through faithful stewardship and the development of resources.

We want Hope graduates to focus their life's calling on today's most important issues, not just on a path influenced by economics alone. In order to become agents of Hope who live faithfully into their vocation, they need to be free to pursue professional interests, go on to graduate school, or serve others. Your gift to the Hope Fund or Hope Forward (Pay It Forward) help make this possible.

Curious About The New Pay-It-Forward Model?

We believe that a Hope education transforms students and that a student’s financial situation should never be a barrier to that experience. Inspired by these beliefs, Hope is launching a first-of-its-kind tuition program based on a pay-it-forward approach: Students will make their investment after, not before, they receive a Hope education.

The tuition program follows a long-term strategy known as “Hope Forward,” designed to ensure access for every student who is admitted to Hope. More than just a strategy, though, Hope Forward is a mindset. It describes an ethos at Hope — a college-wide commitment to transforming the lives of our students through generosity and gratitude.

The initial phase of this program begins in fall 2021, when we’ll welcome the inaugural group of 20 participating students. To learn more, please visit hope.edu/hopeforward.
