Off-Campus Study & International Student Resources
Transforming Students, Transforming the World

At Hope we strive to provide our students with life-transforming, global experiences. We aim to welcome and engage international students and scholars in the campus community, provide off-campus study opportunities for all students and stimulate conversation surrounding cross-cultural and global issues in and out of the classroom — all of which prepare our students to engage in our local and global communities.

During Hope College's Day of Giving, you will have the opportunity to support the work of the Fried Center for Global Engagement:

David O. Otai ’12 International Student Resource and Activity Fund

Join us in supporting the international and Third Culture Kid community at Hope! Your gift supports cultural activities such as international student orientation, Explore Michigan, IMAGES: A Reflection of Cultures, and the International Food Fair, as well as other activities that allow the international and TCK community to thrive at Hope — their home away from home. David O. Otai ’12 was an international student from Kenya who died tragically in a plane crash in 2010 prior to his graduation. He was a vibrant part of our global community and was an enthusiastic participant in multiple activities across Hope’s campus. This fund was set up in memory of David for the many lives he touched with his contagious smile and constant joy!

Study Abroad and Off-Campus Study

Off-Campus Study will return in full-force soon, and when it does we want to be ready to support the demand and financial need of every student who wishes to experience these transformative opportunities.

Hope students are able to choose from more than 300 academic off-campus study programs in over 60 countries across six continents. Participating in Off-Campus Study is a valuable part of a well-rounded liberal arts education and it equips our students to lead and serve in our global society. The benefit of Off-Campus Study is not singular. When a student returns to Hope after an off-campus study experience, they are able to engage their peers in the classrooms and residence halls with an expanded worldview. They are also able to share their new perspectives of learning and growth on a more informal basis with their friend and peer groups on campus, cultivating discussions on critical topics such as migration, environmental sustainability and global health. Your gift to this fund encourages and enables Hope students to study off-campus and to explore the world!
